Ruth works at AU as a Library Assistant, specifically on circulation and cataloguing materials.

What is the most important part of your job?

Ensuring that the library has the course materials available that the students require to complete their course.

Any advice for people going into your line of work?

Look for ways to volunteer in a library setting and start taking some online library courses.

Library employees and cats are a common pairing, what is your pet of choice?

The wild ones that take care of themselves. Like the squirrel who comes out to see who the stranger is when we have guests, and the deer that sits under our trees and watches us do yard work.

What is your favorite thing about living in Athabasca?

The view coming into town and the people living here!

How do you stay motivated?

I like to see my to-do list get shorter!

What is the best book you have read lately?

Two from Galilee. It’s actually a biblical fiction about Mary and Joseph highlighting how they meet, marry and what it may have been like to be the parents of Mary and Joseph.

What do you do outside of work?

Gardening, so that we can enjoy fresh vegetables in the summer, plus get some exercise when doing the weeding. I also enjoy digitizing family photos and history so I can share the results with my family.
